The unique curatorial model of the Czech Architecture yearbook is based on the fact that the editor changes every year, which gives the publication a new, fresh perspective on our scene each time. After Jan Schindler, who signed the current “Slow Buildings” edition, the symbolic baton is being taken up by another prominent figure.

We are very pleased to announce that the editor for the upcoming Czech Architecture 2025—2026 volume will be the renowned architect David Richard Chisholm (from CMC architects). David will bring his distinctive style and international context to the assessment of Czech buildings. We are already curious which themes and lines in contemporary domestic production he will highlight and which buildings will make it into his final selection for next year.

The selection of an external editor with strong ties to both the international and domestic scene guarantees that the yearbook will remain independent and critical. David Richard Chisholm is known for his emphasis on detail, functionality, and urban context, which promises a very interesting perspective on projects currently being created in the Czech Republic. Follow our website, where we will regularly inform you about how work on the new volume is progressing under his leadership and which criteria will be key for the upcoming edition.

Our traveling exhibition, accompanying the newly published yearbook Czech Architecture, has set out among the people. We do not want to lock architecture away in galleries, which is why we place panels with 35 of the best buildings directly in public urban space.

Where and when can you visit us?

Until 12 July 2026 – Prague-Karlín: You can find the exhibition outdoors right by the popular HolKa pedestrian footbridge. Combine a pleasant walk along the water with a dose of architectural inspiration.

From 12 August 2026 – Humpolec: The exhibition is moving to the Vysočina region. You can find it in the pleasant setting of Humpolec’s Stromovka park.

Come and see what magic a sensitive architectural intervention can do to the story of a place. Admission is free.

The transition from the bustling Prague district of Karlín to the peaceful greenery of Humpolec’s Stromovka perfectly reflects the diversity of the buildings featured in the yearbook itself. The outdoor exhibition is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week, so you can view it during a morning run, an afternoon coffee, or an evening stroll. Don’t forget to share your photos from the exhibition with us on social media.

We have barely christened the current volume, and we are already looking ahead. We have opened applications for the upcoming edition of Czech Architecture 2025—2026.

Have you recently built an exceptional house, successfully carried out a sensitive conversion of an industrial building, or designed a public space that changed the life of the local community for the better? Do not leave your completed projects in a drawer; submit them. Since 1999, the yearbook has been the most respected reflection of the domestic architectural scene. Submitting is the first step toward making your building part of the history of Czech architecture.

The application deadline is September 30, and we are calling on established studios as well as young, emerging architects not to be afraid to present their completed projects. Every year we look for projects of diverse scales. Let us know about yourself and help us create another varied mosaic of contemporary Czech building culture.

The Yearbook Czech Architecture 2024–2025 has been published. The new edition continues more than twenty-five years of tradition of a publication that has long mapped notable buildings on the Czech architectural scene.

This year’s selection was edited by architect Jan Schindler, who chose 35 buildings from 180 submitted projects. His aim was to create a diverse picture of contemporary Czech architecture — its boldness, thoughtfulness, ability to work with context, and responsiveness to social and environmental challenges.

According to him, this year’s yearbook shows two distinct lines. On the one hand, the ability to sensitively build on the historical layer and give it new meaning; on the other, the ambition to shape new parts of cities and the landscape so that they become a permanently useful part of social life.

Contemporary architecture is no longer merely an aesthetic discourse. It is a social, ecological, and practical discipline — a tool that shapes public space, supports community, and responds to material and climate challenges.

The selection includes large infrastructure projects, new urban districts, conversions of industrial sites, public and school buildings, community projects, and individual housing. It is precisely this breadth that shows that architecture today enters many layers of everyday life.

Prague’s Invalidovna, a warm June evening, the pulsating atmosphere of the Rohan Design District festival, and hundreds of architecture enthusiasts. This is what the official launch of the new yearbook looked like, carried in the spirit of this year’s volume motto – Slow Buildings. During the evening, editor Jan Schindler explained how challenging it was to select the final 35 buildings from 180 submitted projects. He also pointed out that the biggest obstacle for Czech architects remains the complex administrative system.

The entire production team, which prepared the yearbook completely on the production and editorial side, received loud and well-deserved applause. Visitors and guests of the evening did not hide their enthusiasm and greatly admired the final design of the book. The highlight of the evening was then the interview with Daniel Libeskind and the welcome of Eva Jiřičná. Take a look at our photo gallery and soak up the atmosphere of the evening.

In addition to unusual experiences, guests took home above all fresh copies of the book, which at first glance impresses with its precise craftsmanship. Martin Pecina gave it an unmistakable face that perfectly complements the hundreds of photographs, drawings, and diagrams hidden inside. If you missed the launch, don’t worry – the book is now on sale, and we hope it will be the same source of inspiration and emotion for you as this entire ceremonial evening was for us.

Publishing a book that maps the best of Czech architecture and accompanying it with a traveling exhibition for the public is a huge project. None of this would have been possible without the strong support of those who share our vision and love for cultivating public space. Our greatest thanks go to the general partners of this year’s edition, the companies Ahrend and Rodop, whose essential contribution enabled us to successfully realize the entire project. Along with them, the project was also supported by our main partners, including Gaggenau, Sekyra Group, Rehau, Papyrus and the company Idealab. We value your trust, energy, and financial as well as material support, thanks to which we can continue with the project and bring inspiration, document architectural heritage, and open a discussion about the quality of the environment in which we all live.

In order for ideas about quality urbanism and architecture to reach the widest possible audience, the role of the media is also crucial. For the excellent cooperation and for spreading awareness of the yearbook and the traveling exhibition, we therefore thank our media partners, which are the portals Archizoom, Czechdesign, Hrot24 and Radio 1. It is precisely thanks to this synergy of commercial partners and strong media that we are successfully connecting the professional public with the general public and showing that investment in good design pays off for all of us in the long term. Thank you all for building the future with us and helping to cultivate the space around us.

The upcoming gala evening on June 10 at Invalidovna promises a truly exceptional experience. The launch of the 26th volume of the Czech Architecture yearbook will be accompanied by a meeting with the biggest names in the field. The main star of this closed event will be the world-renowned architect Daniel Libeskind, who will personally present his visionary Sekyra Flowers project planned for Rohanské nábřeží during the evening. Invited guests will thus have a unique opportunity to hear details about this future Prague landmark directly from its author.

The exceptional nature of the moment will also be underscored by the presence of the first lady of Czech architecture, Eva Jiřičná. Her presence carries strong symbolic significance – it was she who stood at the very birth of this prestigious book series long 26 years ago. “I am immensely pleased that we can continue to develop this tradition and connect its roots with a global future,” says Radek Váňa, publisher of ARCHIZOOM BOOKS, which publishes the yearbook.

The planned meeting of Daniel Libeskind and Eva Jiřičná on one stage will open a fascinating discussion about where the Czech scene has moved since the post-revolution euphoria and what values shape public space today. While the yearbook will emphasize the importance of quality and sustainability in the domestic environment, the perspective of world architects will give the evening an international context. Although the event is accessible by invitation only, we will inform you about this unique meeting on our blog.

Quality architecture deserves to be seen – not only on the pages of a book, but also directly in public space. Together with the approaching release of the new volume of the Czech Architecture 2024—2025 yearbook, a unique traveling exhibition is therefore also being prepared. It will present to the general public, in the open air, a selection of 35 of the most interesting buildings that map today’s architectural reality, the courage, and the transformation of our cities and landscape. Would you like to know which buildings editor Jan Schindler selected this year and exactly where you will soon be able to meet them face to face?

The exhibition is designed to blend organically with its surroundings and bring architecture closer even to people who do not normally go to galleries. The large-format panels that we are preparing for you these days will contain not only photographs of the selected works, but also textual commentaries. These will clearly explain the deeper meaning of the individual architectural interventions.

The exhibition will soon begin its route, and you will be able to view top-tier architecture completely free of charge during a regular walk through the city. The first stop where you will be able to see the exhibition will be Prague – specifically the area in Karlín by the new HolKa pedestrian bridge. The exhibition will be on view here from June 10 to July 11, so you can combine a pleasant walk along the water with a solid dose of inspiration. We will keep you informed about the other stops in the coming months.

The twenty-sixth volume of the prestigious publication Czech Architecture is ready to be unveiled. The ceremonial christening and official launch of the book will take place on 10 June 2026 in the inspiring setting of Prague’s Invalidovna, as part of the Rohan Design District festival. This festival, which organically connects contemporary architecture, design and the transformation of the city directly in the environment of Prague’s Karlín, will provide the new annual with the best possible backdrop for its launch into the world.

This year’s book, subtitled Slow Buildings, will bring a curated selection of 35 of the most interesting domestic and international projects, carefully chosen from a total of 180 submitted projects by editor and architect Jan Schindler. If you want to look under the hood of contemporary architectural practice and get to know its courage and thoughtfulness, the new annual should definitely not be missing from your library.
The central theme of “slow building” will undoubtedly resonate throughout the entire evening ahead. The subtitle openly points to a phenomenon that Czech architects deal with every day – extremely long permitting processes and bureaucracy, because of which the implementation of projects in the Czech Republic commonly takes six to twelve years. From the moment it is presented, the new annual will thus serve not only as a showcase of aesthetic forms, but also as an important social commentary and a mirror of the state of domestic building permitting. We look forward to seeing you at Invalidovna.
